I like having a kickstand. I know they aren’t for everyone but I need kickstand that can keep a loaded touring bike up even in the wind. My Surly LHT with a standard bike shop kick stand just isn’t stable for very long, the standard kick stand just isn’t good enough.

Pletscher Double Kickstand
I have tried the double footed kickstands are they are great when you need to work on your bike. It’s like having a built-in repair stand. But when the bike is loaded it can be hard to get the bike up on the stand and hard to keep the stand from rotating.
I like to Greenfield Stabilized kickstand, it supports a loaded bike where the weight is and just seems more stable all of the time. I’ll update this post as I gain experience touring with the Greenfield SKS2 Stabilizer Black Bicycle Kickstand but so far after just a few days of riding I am very impressed. The improved stability was obvious immediately.

Where’s the love for the Click-Stand (www.click-stand.com)?
Supports the bike from above the load, super stable even in strong winds and you don’t need to carry it with you if you choose not to.

Bryan, I have never really seen one just the website. Have you used one?
I am sure I’d lose a piece while touring. You can see I have trouble with stuff like the Ortliebs that are attached. I’d lose the brake bands and then have to tie my brakes off with a bungee every time I got off the bike.

My wife and I each have a Click-Stand. She thought it was an overpriced doo-dad when I first showed her the website but then she used the one I bought for her and loves it. Neither of us would trade them for a regular kick stand when touring.
And frankly, I paid too much for my bike to just lay the thing on the ground!
No more balancing act against a wall either.
And the brake bands aren’t going anywhere, especially if you have bar-end shifters.

Sounds good to me, I just didn’t want to order one just from the web site pictures. But sounds excellent.

Nice setup. I’d like to get a kickstand for my Surly LHT, but am hesitant after reading comments online from people who have damaged their chainstays with them.
Did you need to do anything special to the Greenfield kickstand to mount it on your LHT? It seems like the spoke holder might get in the way.
